During a year of unexpected events and enormous changes, I find myself at a place on the path I couldn’t have imagined a year ago. It’s not a place I thought I’d be, but like many times before, it feels surprisingly comfortable and is filled with many opportunities.
The pandemic hit full force in March 2020. At the time I was working at a major airport as an essential employee. I worked in March and April through daily state and country closures, changes to normal as I knew it and all the feelings that came with that. Feelings of shock, uncertainty, anxiety and survival. In April I was offered the chance to take a voluntary leave from my airline job in an effort to save my job and others company wide. After much thought, I made the decision to take one month off. One month quickly turned into four months, and then an additional eighteen – which felt incredibly strange!
I’m fifty-five and fully expected my airline job, which was my third career, to be my last. In this space, I did my best to remain open to all the changes, and most days fully trusted the process of navigating a path that was completely unfamiliar to me.
I asked myself… How did I want to spend my time? What did I want to accomplish on this path? And, how could I continue to practice self care while creating my best lifestyle in the process?
I spent time journaling, reflecting and looking at multiple options. During the process an idea came to me that got me excited. I would find a job in the hotel industry with the opportunity for more travel options and benefits too! Once I had that revelation, I immediately took the necessary steps to put the idea into action, and within a few weeks was offered a job at a wonderful local hotel. Helping me fulfill my lifestyle goal of travel and adventure.
In my Journal, Self Care Conversations On The Path, I talk about remaining open during change, journaling and following messages from the universe, which for me are revelations or gut feelings. Staying open during change isn’t always easy or without additional stress in what is often an already stressful situation.
I encourage you to think, and of course journal, about how you can spend your time fulfilling your goals in the midst of change, while practicing self care and creating your best lifestyle.
Until next time, Laura Li Lifestyle
